Milan by subway yesterday and today
Barbara di Castri’s new book, “Milan by subway, yesterday and today” gives us a fresh look on Italy’s continuously growing city. Journalist and writer Barbara di Castri is used to writing about life in cities. As a journalist for daily newspaper La Repubblica in Rome, she covered the many cultural and artistic facets of the eternal city. When she moved to Milan in 1992, she was assigned a weekly column called “Dietro la facciata”, where she revealed the beauty of Milan’s beautiful inner courtyards “cortili”, hidden treasures behind the portals rendered all the more mysterious by the winter fog.
“I’ve lived in Milan for 30 years now, and it doesn’t stop surprising me. It is constantly changing and its excellent transportation system allows us to quickly discover areas that bustle with commuters and office workers but reveal a history of a town once outside Milan but now part of this expanding metropolis”, says Barbara di Castri regarding her new book.
“Milan by subway, yesterday and today” is not a tourist guide but an additional resource for the curious traveler who wants to go beyond the important must see’s of the Duomo cathedral, the Castello Sforzesco and Leonardo’s Last Supper.
